Chicago Booth and UChicago alumni are cordially invited to a complimentary Industry Outlook session on Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies to shed light on some of these topics.
Event Details
Cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Etherum have been making the headlines in in recent months, as hype and speculation drove a heady rise in prices before its recent correction. Investors are seeing great volatility arising from fears of hacks, scams, and regulators clamping down on cryptocurrency exchanges. Investor confidence will be restored as cryptocurrencies become mainstream. This will only happen as more payment systems and governments accept cryptocurrencies as real currencies, merchants share savings on credit card transaction costs with customers, and billions of unbanked customers gradually start transacting using cryptocurrencies.
Similarly, the number of use cases for blockchain – which underpins cryptocurrencies – is rapidly increasing, from business registration, protecting IP, securing medical records, managing identity, combating fraud and counterfeits, to streamlining insurance, processing transactions, smart contracts, documenting provenance, tracing food, energy distribution, public safety, and even voting.
However, on the ground business leaders are wondering about the fundamental value of cryptocurrencies and the regulatory outlook among Asian markets. Some are wondering how to practically start investing in which cybercurrency, and how should companies start accessing blockchains. What are the major risks and success factors that managers should watch out for, when considering if blockchain is right for their organizations? How might industry standards and governance still help in developing these nascent markets? How significantly will intermediary professions such as bankers, lawyers, brokers, or even governments be impacted? Which are some hotspots in the ecosystem for new blockchain startups to enter and create value?
The Chicago Booth Alumni Club of Singapore is partnering with the Singapore FinTech Association to present a complimentary Industry Outlook session on Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies to shed light on some of these topics.
