The interdisciplinary program encompasses students and faculty from Booth, the Law School, the Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice, the Pritzker School of Medicine, and the Harris School of Public Policy.

Students gain the vision and judgment needed to tackle the financial, policy, management, and social service delivery issues facing the health-care field.

Priyanka Karandikar

(upbeat music)

- I had never thought I would go to

business school.
I'm a physical therapist

by initial training.
I have been in healthcare

all along.
I worked with a

pharmaceutical company
headquartered in Bombay.

- I'm really interested
in enhancing patient

experience in hospitals and particularly

focusing on resource
management within healthcare

systems.
That's really what encouraged

me to go get an MBA.
I was very pleasantly

surprised to learn that
Booth actually has a lot

of resources if you want
to work in healthcare.

Along with my MBA, I'm
also part of the GPHAP

program. It's the
Graduate Program in Health

- Administration and Policy.
There's multiple schools at

the university that participate.

Students from the Law School,
from the Med School,

from the School of Social
Services Administration

and from the School of Public Policy.

We are working with scholars,

they give you an actual live data set,

you generate an output and you meet the

recommendation.
- We are working with doctors.

This morning, I was in the operating room

- at the University of
Chicago Medical Center

wearing scrubs with my
classmates looking in on

a bypass surgery.
- Having that kind of access,

not just to professional resources,

but in terms of learning,
I think is very important.

Things at Booth are very student-driven.

It's a harmonious bunch of people.

Once I knew that,
Booth immediately became one

of my top choices.
Booth can give you

whatever you want.

Program Structure

Through the joint MBA health-care management certificate program, students can earn either a Certificate in Health Administration and Policy or a Certificate in Health Administration and Policy with a Concentration in Global Health. Students must complete the core requirements of the Full-Time MBA Program, the two required courses and two electives for either of the GPHAP certificate programs, a supervised practicum, and cocurricular activities. The supervised practicum can be fulfilled through: summer internships, Erikson or Quern Fellowships, field placements, research assistantships or internships, or professional experience (with approval from the GPHAP director). For the global health certificate program, the practicum may be completed inside or outside of the United States if desired. Students must attend three health-related workshops, seminars, lectures, or GPHAP special events each quarter and provide a short synopsis of each event attended to fulfill the cocurricular-activity aspect of this program (18 in total).
