In recent years, Chinese investment in the U.S. has grown rapidly. Well-known names, such as Lenovo, Smithfield Foods, GE Appliances, Ingram Micro, and AMC, are Chinese-owned and U.S. government scrutiny has made Chinese investment more difficult.
For instance, the government's refusal to approve Jack Ma's Ant Financial Services Group's attempt to buy MoneyGram International Inc. in January 2018 is the latest sign of deals getting more scrutiny. Despite the government's statement that it has no national security concerns, why is the proposed purchase of the Chicago Stock Exchange by a Chinese-led investor group stalled at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission?
Join us as John Kerin makes the case that the bid will open economic ties with China and be a gift horse for Chicago.
