We are pleased to announce the all new University of Chicago FriNge Alumni Series, in which we'll meet the extreme and different members of our club. Every couple of weeks, we'll meet a different alumni (or friends of alumni) who have done something extraordinary and out of the convention, we'll try to surprise, excite and provoke, however our future guests will remain a surprise.

And with great pleasure I would like to invite to the first FriNge event of the year, a talk and asian fusion cooking session with Daniel Tan, '11 (AXP-10)

3-Course Asian Fusion Menu

Thai Otah:
Learn how to make a spice paste for Otah that will have you reaching out for bread as the perfect accompaniment. Enjoy the Thai version of this local Singapore favourite. Highly addictive when paired with bread

Vietnamese Fresh Spring Rolls:
Savoury filling wrapped in wafer-thin rice paper. Healthy but not lacking in taste, especially when you dip these rolls into the special recipe peanut sauce. Yums!

Ondeh Ondeh [VEG]:
Another classic Peranankan dessert; Ondeh ondeh is sweet potato glutinous rice balls filled with palm sugar that oozes out the moment you bite into these little balls...heavenly!

Speaker Profiles

Daniel Tan, '11 (AXP-10) (Speaker)
Founder, Food Playground

Daniel is passionate about making a positive difference in society and creating socially responsible businesses. He founded Food Playground in 2012 to enable stay-at-home mothers and seniors to share their culinary passion with visitors to Singapore through hands-on cooking classes and corporate team-building activities in the kitchen.

A man who clearly walks his talk, Daniel believes in making his dreams come alive. He took the path less travelled by completing a solo 7000-mile BMW motorcycle expedition across Southeast Asia in 2012 after spending 6 months pursuing his photography interests across South America.

Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, Daniel spent more than 10 years in the travel and hospitality industry and has a proven track record in brand-building and general management. His career highlights include setting up budget airline Valuair - subsequently becoming the airline's Country Manager in Thailand and helping Ascott launch the first Citadines serviced residence in Asia. Daniel was subsequently headhunted to set up the area marketing team for Pan Pacific Hotels Group and still found time to complete his Executive MBA with University of Chicago Booth School of Business with High Honors in 2011.
