Generative AI (Generative AI), such as ChatGPT, has developed rapidly in recent years, causing a global hot debate. As the most cutting-edge technology that promises to change the world, generative AI can generate text, pictures, videos, and even imitate human creativity. In addition to focusing on the infinite possibilities of generative AI, there are also concerns about copyright, transparency, bias, misinformation, and the impact on human interests of AI-generated content. This talk will explore the future prospects and obstacles of generative AI from multiple perspectives, providing college students and professionals with some of the tools to navigate AI, as well as insights into developing generative AI applications for specialized industries.

Dr. Dennis Ong (Speaker) '00
Technology Executive, Amazon Web Services
Dr. Dennis Ong is a Technology Executive at Amazon Web Services (AWS), where he drives business and technological innovations, particularly in AI and cloud transformation for Fortune 100 companies. He is deeply involved in enabling organizations to leverage AI for developing new applications and use cases. Dr. Ong also serves as a Technical and Business Advisor at the University of Pennsylvania's PRECISE Research Center, focusing on GenAI and trustworthy AI research.
Before joining AWS, he led research teams at Verizon that pioneered AI applications and 5G technology, notably achieving the first 5G/AI autonomous vehicle in collaboration with Honda and the University of Michigan. Dr. Ong is a recognized speaker, having delivered talks at TEDx and global conferences on emerging technologies like AI, blockchain, IoT, and autonomous vehicles. He holds numerous patents related to 5G and AI, underscoring his contributions to technological advancements.
Academically, Dr. Ong earned an MBA with honors from The Booth School of Business at The University of Chicago and a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from The Ohio State University, where he was a University Fellow. He continues to contribute to academia as an adjunct faculty member at The Ohio State University.
