CHIEFJ9 (Chicago (Booth) Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum Japan) is now ready to be held on 9 November. We started CHIFJ back in 2014 to envisage entrepreneurial eco-system for Chicago Booth community in Japan. You will hear keynote speech by Motofumi Onishi,'93 a successful global business leader, update from the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, five startups (by Chicago Booth alumni) presentation, and talking session about angel investment by Shuichi Tajima,'84 and panel discussion (moderator: Tai Harada,'19 a venture capitalist) discussing about entrepreneurial eco-system.

Speaker Profiles
Motofumi "Mike" Onishi w (Speaker)
Motofumi "Mike" Onishi was born in Kobe in 1960. Graduated from Chicago Graduate School in 1993, Joined ITOCHU Corporation in 1983 and engaged in overseas steel plant business for the US and APAC. After working for Dell Computer, Amazon Japan, Crocs, Johnson & Johnson, he is now involved in the start-up and management of venture companies. At Amazon Japan, he served as General Manager of Books and Director of Japan Channel Management. At Crocs, he became the representative of Crocs Japan LLC. In Johnson & Johnson, he was appointed vice president of Vision Care Company.
Waverly Deutsch (Speaker)
Clinical Professor and Academic Director of University-wide Entrepreneurship Content, Chicago Booth
Waverly Deutsch teaches the Global New Venture Challenge class for Chicago Booth's Executive MBA program. She has been a full-time coach for the annual New Venture Challenge, the #1 rated academic entrepreneurship accelerator, since 2002. Waverly Deutsch created Building the New Venture, a unique course on entrepreneurial execution, and taught it for 15 years. In 2004, she was awarded the USASBE Innovative Teaching Pedagogy for the YourCo simulation that parallels the class and allows students to develop and run a mock startup through all phases of early operation. In 2012, she became one of the faculty coaches for the companies in the Polsky Center Summer Accelerator Program. From 2006 to 2009, in conjunction with the University of Chicago's Collegiate Scholars Program, Deutsch pioneered and taught an intensive summer seminar entitled Elements of Entrepreneurship in which promising high school students from the Chicago Public School Systems turned an idea into a business plan in two weeks. In 2015, Deutsch was honored with the Phoenix Faculty award for her contributions to the Booth student community beyond the classroom.
Cerise Miller (Speaker), Polsky Center's
Cerise Miller leads the Polsky Center's global initiatives and international partnership efforts. She is responsible for designing and implementing entrepreneurial programs in Hong Kong and across the globe. She helps drive the international strategy of the Polsky Center, while also serving as a key strategic relationship-builder, particularly in Asia and Europe. Some programs she manages include the CUPP Entrepreneurship Bootcamp – FinTech and BóLè Tech Investor Forum.
