In this blog, Rimel Mwamba shares what her experience has been like as a member of two student groups at Booth: Booth Africa and the African American MBA Association. Before reading her sentiments, here’s more information on the student groups mentioned above:

The African American MBA Association
provides a forum for interaction between students of African descent at Chicago Booth with the school community, corporate partners, and the city of Chicago. The group prides itself on being a supportive community, even to prospective students looking for guidance during the admissions process.

Booth Africa aims to build a close-knit community for the growing number of Chicago Booth students who have strong interest in issues, events, and activities related to Africa. Booth Africa invites prospective students interested in the student group to connect with them to talk more about Chicago Booth!

What makes Chicago a great place to be during Black History Month? Any events you’re looking forward to attending?

Chicago—especially Hyde Park—is one of my favorite places. Walking down the street and seeing people from diverse backgrounds is incredibly gratifying. The South Side community is warm, vibrant, and engaging, and I’m grateful to interact with it often.

For Black History Month, I’m especially excited to attend “Grown Folks Stories” at The Promontory, a fantastic space to connect with local Black voices and hear their funny, thought-provoking real-life stories. I’m also looking forward to Chicago Restaurant Week, which overlaps with Black History Month—it's a great opportunity to support and explore local Black-owned restaurants.
