Rustandy Center Announces Six 2023 Tarrson FellowsThe Rustandy Center for Social Sector Innovation at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business is pleased to announce Andrew Durke and Rachel Salvador as the 2019 recipients of the annual Lauren and Keith Breslauer, ’88, Social Impact Scholarship.
This scholarship, which supports Booth students with career ambitions in social entrepreneurship and impact investing, awards $20,000 each to two rising second-year students in Booth’s Full-Time MBA Program. The Breslauer Scholarship is made available thanks to support from Lauren and Keith Breslauer, ’88.
Andrew Durke is a second-year MBA student at Booth. He has worked as a consultant at Yunus Social Business and Aptech Africa and is currently working for Agribuddy, an ag tech startup in Cambodia.
With regard to advice for Booth students interested in social impact, Durke said, “I would simply say to go for it. The path to a career in social impact isn't always straight-forward, and it's usually not as secure as other options available to Booth grads. It can sometimes feel like you're taking a big risk—especially compared to some pretty attractive alternatives. But the pedigree, network, and skills that come with a degree from Booth are incredible assurances of professional success. If anyone is interested in social impact, I would encourage them to take full advantage of what Booth has to offer and jump in with both feet.”
Rachel Salvador is a second-year MBA student at Booth. She boasts experience working at Applied Predictive Technologies, CGAP, and for a nonprofit education tech company and charter school network through Education Pioneers.
“After Booth, I plan to continue focusing on human growth, ideally reaching a larger scale of impact through systemic change,” she said. “I envision paths supporting education and development, though I am open to other fields.”
Keith Breslauer, ’88, founded Patron Capital in 1999 and is the managing partner of Patron Capital Limited, the investment adviser to the Patron Capital Funds (including Patron Capital Captive Fund, Funds I–V). The total assets under management represents approximately €3.4 billion from leading US and European institutions, endowments, pension funds, and family offices.
Breslauer is active as a patron of numerous charities, including serving as co-chair of the Chicago Booth Global Advisory Board (EMEA), and he sits on the advisory board of Booth’s Rustandy Center for Social Sector Innovation.
