Tamir Aldad MD ’15, MBA ’17

Mindful Care

Dr. Tamir Aldad founded Mindful Care in 2018 with the mission to bring the urgent care model to mental health. Under his leadership, the company has created the first-ever chain of psychiatric urgent-care clinics, offering same-day in-network medication management, therapy, and substance use counseling. Mindful Care has locations in New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Florida, Connecticut, and Illinois, as well as a telehealth offering, serving more than 30,000 visits a month. Nationwide expansion efforts are underway. Dr. Aldad has long believed that care should be accessible and affordable, and he has built Mindful Care services to be in-network with major insurance carriers and offer reasonable private-pay options. He is also a regular media contributor, discussing breaking news and trends shaping the mental health ecosystem.  

Dr. Aldad earned an MBA from Chicago Booth and an MD from American University of Antigua College of Medicine. He completed his residency in general psychiatry and his fellowship in addiction psychiatry at Northwell Health.

Pat A. Basu, MBA ’05, MD ’05

Pat Basu joined Varsity from Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), a national network of oncology hospitals and outpatient care centers, where he served as president and chief executive officer and led the company to a strategic transaction in 2022. Until that transaction, he also served as president and CEO of Brown Legacy Group, CTCA’s parent holding company and private investing platform for CTCA’s owners’ capital. 

Prior thereto, Dr. Basu led UnitedHealth Group’s OptumCare division, the nation’s largest value-based care business, overseeing 9,000 employees and 20,000 physicians managing integrated care delivery through a series of commercial and government capitated contractual arrangements. Prior to his tenure at OptumCare, Dr. Basu helped found and served as president and chief medical officer for Doctor on Demand, the largest provider of telehealth patient visits in the United States., enabling care delivery to more than 40 million patients in partnership with more than 700 employer/health plan partnerships. 

Previously, Dr. Basu served as chief operating officer and chief medical officer for Virtual Radiologic, the nation’s largest teleradiology platform, where he oversaw the company’s senior executive team, clinical leadership, more than 1,000 employees, and led the company’s post-merger integration and key growth initiatives. 

Dr. Basu previously served as a presidentially appointed White House fellow and senior advisor. He is a US board certified physician and practiced medicine at Stanford University and in private practice. Additionally, Dr. Basu has a BA in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois, an MBA from the Chicago Booth School of Business, and an MD from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. 

Dr. Basu also serves on the Board of Directors for United Aesthetics Alliance.

Kenneth Kaufman, ’76

Kenneth Kaufman is founder, managing director, and chair of Kaufman Hall. Since 1976, Mr. Kaufman has provided healthcare organizations with expert counsel and guidance in areas including strategy, finance, financial and capital planning, and mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships. Clients include community hospitals and health systems, academic medical centers, and regional or national health systems.

Recognized as a leading authority on healthcare industry change, Mr. Kaufman has given almost 600 presentations to hospital and healthcare professional associations, board and executive groups, and other organizations. Mr. Kaufman also has authored or coauthored eight books, most recently authoring Now, Near, and Far: The Kaufman Blogs, 2016- 2024. In addition, he’s often quoted and his articles regularly appear in major healthcare publications.

Mr. Kaufman is the recipient of the 2019 Richard L. Clarke Board of Directors Award from the Healthcare Financial Management Association for lifetime contribution to healthcare. In 2024, he received the American Hospital Association’s Award of Honor, which is given to individuals or organizations in recognition of exemplary contributions to the health and well-being of our nation through leadership on major health policy or social initiatives. 

Mr. Kaufman has an MBA with a concentration in hospital administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Anna Levchuk, ’08
Healthcare Innovator

Anna Levchuk is a healthcare innovation professional with over two decades of experience. She is passionate about promoting greater use of data in healthcare with the goal of increasing treatment efficacy and access to care. In addition, she has a keen interest in mental health. With the start of the invasion of Ukraine, Ms. Levchuk organized a nonprofit initiative to deliver digital care and medical supplies to Ukraine. 

Most recently, Ms. Levchuk served as a VP of product and strategy at Clarivate, a $5B healthcare and life sciences analytics company. Before this, she ran the healthcare vertical at S&P Global, where she championed innovative uses of data and digital health. She also worked at UnitedHealth Group / Optum, overseeing M&A and digital innovation and contributing as a member of the Opioid Taskforce. Previously, she held positions at NYU Health, where her role was to bridge translational research and practice of medicine, and at Healthagen, Aetna’s incubator and investment fund. 

Ms. Levchuk has an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business; in 2023 she participated in the invitation-only leadership development program at the Rustandy Center for Social Sector Innovation.

Darwin Ling, ’15

Darwin Ling is the founding general partner of Good AI Capital, a mission-driven venture fund focusing on early-stage AI companies in healthcare, enterprise, and automation. Before that, he was an entrepreneur with multiple exits, a technologist, and an angel investor in successful unicorns such as SoFi and Playco.

Most recently, Mr. Ling served as the CTO and co-founder of SmarterMe, a company that revolutionized sales productivity by bringing AI to the workflow. With enterprise customers such as Danaher (Fortune 500 medical devices), Home Depot, and GE, SmarterMe's innovative approach was recently recognized through its acquisition. 

As a distinguished alumnus of Purdue University, Mr. Ling was featured as one of Purdue's Tech Titans and is serving on the leadership council for the School of Science. As an AI/machine learning expert, Mr. Ling has been a guest lecturer at Chicago Booth. 

Mr. Ling received his MBA (Honors) from Chicago Booth. He also has a BS (Phi Beta Kappa) with distinction in computer science and mathematics and an MS in computer science from Purdue University.

Matthew L. Primack, ’13
President
Advocate Condell Medical Center, Advocate Health

Matthew L. Primack, PT, DPT, MBA, serves as president of Advocate Condell Medical Center and the East Lake County, Illinois Patient Service Community. Anchored by a 300-bed Magnet Level I Trauma Center in Libertyville, which is recognized by US News and World Report, Healthgrades, and Newsweek for multiple national achievements, Dr. Primack is responsible for executive oversight of the hospital, 25+ ambulatory centers, and market strategy and operations. As part of the Advocate Health system, a top 5 health system in the nation, he prioritizes safety, quality, and service while continuing to expand key strategic services to the community. Dr. Primack emphasizes efficiency and excellence in operations, improved access for patients, and community partnerships.

Dr. Primack served as president of Advocate Christ Medical Center for two years prior to his current position. At this 830-bed tertiary/quaternary center serving the southwest side of Chicago, Dr. Primack was responsible for executive oversight of the facility with key initiatives including a perioperative renovation project, a transformational cost reduction implementation, and several violence prevention and workforce development projects. He started his career by opening a private practice in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation that was recognized by Crain’s Chicago Healthcare and Lake County’s Daily Herald for exemplary patient care and small business success.

Dr. Primack received his undergraduate degree from the University of Cincinnati in Pre-Medicine Biopsychology, a graduate degree from the Chicago Medical School in physical therapy, a clinical doctorate from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in physical therapy and rehabilitation, and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He completed the American Hospital Association’s Senior Fellowship and is a 2016 Signature Fellow and 2019 Daniel Burnham Executive Fellow of Leadership Greater Chicago where he now serves on their Board of Directors.

Dr. Primack is an active member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, serves as Advocate Health’s ambassador to the Illinois Hospital Association’s Policy and Advocacy Committee, and serves on the American Hospital Association Region 5 Board of Directors. He has been appointed to the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business Executive MBA Ambassadors Board and is a member of the Leadership Council of the Corporate Coalition of Chicago.

Dr. Primack has a passion for the advancement and success of others, serving as a Healthcare Innovation Advisor to the University of Chicago, and mentors graduate students and young careerists. He has advised over 50 healthcare startups throughout the country and remains committed to the advancement of healthcare through innovation. Primack has lectured both regionally and nationally on leadership, healthcare strategy, and cost transformation. He serves on boards of several philanthropic and civic nonprofit organizations throughout the Chicagoland area and has led state-wide initiatives on violence prevention and work force development.

Justin Sunshine, ’09
Managing Director
General Atlantic

Justin Sunshine is a managing director at General Atlantic, where he focuses on growth-oriented investments across the healthcare industry. Prior to joining General Atlantic in 2019, Mr. Sunshine was a managing director in the Private Equity group at Blackstone where he spent time across both the New York and London offices. Justin also previously worked in Accenture’s strategy practice. 

Mr. Sunshine received a BBA in finance from the University of Texas at Austin - McCombs School of Business, where he graduated with high honors. Mr. Sunshine also has an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where he was the recipient of a two-year Chicago Booth merit scholarship. Community involvement includes current positions on the Healthcare Advisory Board for the Partnership Fund for New York City, the Business Review Board for the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation, and the Urban Arts Partnership.
