US Monetary Policy Forum Panelist Stephen G. Cecchetti
Stephen G. Cecchetti is the Rosen Family Chair of International Finance at Brandeis International Business School and the Vice Chair of the Advisory Scientific Committee of the European Systemic Risk Board. He previously taught at Brandeis from 2003 to 2008. Before rejoining Brandeis in 2014, Cecchetti completed a five-year term as economic adviser and head of the Monetary and Economic Department at the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland. He has also taught at NYU Stern School of Business and, for 15 years, was a member of the Department of Economics at the Ohio State University.
In addition to his other appointments, Cecchetti served as executive vice president and director of research at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (1997–99); editor of the Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking (1992–present); research associate with the National Bureau of Economic Research (1989–2011); and research fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (2008–present). He holds an undergraduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a doctorate from the University of California Berkeley, and an honorary doctorate from the University of Basel.
Cecchetti's research interests include inflation and price measurement, monetary policy, macroeconomic theory, economics of the Great Depression, and the economics of financial regulation. He has published widely in academic and policy journals.
