US Monetary Policy Forum Panelist Jan Hatzius
Jan Hatzius is the chief economist and head of Global Economics and Markets Research. He joined Goldman Sachs in the Frankfurt office in 1997 and transferred to New York in 1999. Hatzius was named managing director in 2004 and partner in 2008.
Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Hatzius was a research officer at the London School of Economics. He has won numerous forecasting prizes and is a two-time winner (2009 and 2011) of the Lawrence R. Klein Award by Blue Chip Economic Indicators, Inc. for the most accurate US economic forecast over the prior four years, a period including the global financial crisis. Hatzius is a member of the economic advisory panels of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the Congressional Budget Office.
Hatzius earned a PhD in economics from Oxford University. He also earned degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.
