The University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business and Law School announced the launch of an accelerated joint JD/MBA program enabling students to receive both degrees in just three years.

The joint degree program combines the interdisciplinary strengths and distinct flexibility of two world-leading institutions to prepare students for careers at the intersection of business and law.  An integrated curriculum allows students to maximize their time with the world-class faculty at the University of Chicago and earn a Juris Doctor from UChicago Law and a Masters of Business Administration from Booth on an expedited timeline. The existing four year program will be available to students interested in more specialized legal and business education.

A strategically designed Accelerated JD/MBA curriculum provides students with both foundational legal and business skills and also the flexibility to tailor coursework towards their specific professional goals. Throughout all three years, students will benefit from collaborative program management, leveraging the resources of both schools to provide students with comprehensive academic advising, access to student organizations and activities, top-tier career services support and extensive alumni networks.

Students can also participate in cutting-edge experiential programming through the Innovation Clinic and Kirkland & Ellis Corporate Lab at the Law School, the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship, and Lab courses at Booth.  Additionally, students will receive targeted leadership training and development through the UChicago Law Kapnick Initiative and Booth’s Leadership Effectiveness and Development (LEAD) program.

“The University of Chicago Law School and Chicago Booth are premier institutions in their fields, and an education combining both of them has no equal. The program’s students obtain an immersive, interactive, and comprehensive legal and business education, and the opportunity to complete this in three years is extraordinary and exciting,” said Law School Dean Thomas J. Miles. “This program empowers students for outstanding careers as leaders in either law or business – and mostly likely, for careers spanning both professions.”

“This is a fantastic combination from an intellectual standpoint. Through a curriculum spanning two preeminent institutions, students gain tools and problem-solving approaches to serve as key leaders and advisers in increasingly complex global environments,” said Chicago Booth Dean Madhav Rajan. “The new structure will make the JD/MBA more feasible for students, and so we think it will be very popular.”

Applicants interested in the JD/MBA are encouraged to apply through the schools’ centralized, joint-application process and prior to the January 7, 2020, JD/MBA application deadline.
