The University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business officially welcomed its new home in Singapore with an opening ceremony on Sunday, February 28, at the National Library Building, 100 Victoria Street, #10-01/02, at 6:30 p.m.

The center’s grand opening combined with one of Booth’s Global Leadership Series events and also included a presentation and reception.

Located on the tenth floor of the city’s National Library Building, the 6,400-square-foot facility features classrooms, offices, and event space, where Booth will host executive education programs, seminars, research collaborations, and will serve as a meeting space for some 800 Booth alumni in Singapore.

“For nearly 16 years, Chicago Booth has had a special connection to Singapore, which is home to one of our largest alumni bases in the world,” said Sunil Kumar, Booth dean and George Pratt Shultz Professor of Operations Management. “We are committed to maintaining a robust presence here and offering many opportunities for student recruitment, intellectual engagement, and connection with members of the Booth community and the greater business community.”

Booth established a presence in Singapore in 2000, when it became the world’s first business school with permanent campuses on three continents: North America, Europe and Asia.

The school moved its Executive MBA Program from Singapore to Hong Kong in 2014 and its lease on its former location, the House of Tan Yeok Nee, expired in 2015.

“The opening of the Singapore Center is the latest example of Booth’s ongoing commitment to Singapore, following last year’s announcement of Booth’s joint program with National University of Singapore Business School, the Asia Executive Series. Through this opening, Booth in Singapore will continue to serve as a source of professional growth for business leaders,” said 2001 Booth alumnus George Tanasijevich, president and chief executive officer of Marina Bay Sands Pte Ltd.

“The center’s location at the National Library Building is symbolic of Booth’s important role in Singapore and the broader region. I look forward to additional activities and events for the Booth alumni at the new Singapore Center.”

Wong Kim Yin, a 2003 graduate of Booth’s Asia Executive Program and current Group CEO of Singapore Power Ltd., says, “The opening of the Center signifies Chicago Booth’s continuous commitment to Singapore. The Center will be a place for faculty, students, alumni, and the broader Booth community to connect and engage. I hope we can build on the rich DNA that we share, to develop and promote cutting edge business insights, creating exceptional value for all.‎”
