During the Spring Quarter, some of our students shift their focus from the busy campus recruiting period, while others move toward a more specialized search for their summer internships and post-MBA roles.

As a prospective student who is still researching MBA programs, the Chicago Booth Employment Report offers comprehensive data to help you in your decision and as you explore career options.
Whether students spent the past several months trying to land a job in investment management, consulting, technology, or something in between, Boothies will be well represented this summer in companies that seek top MBA talent.
How the Report Informs Your MBA Search
Experience teaches us that facts are friendly—with full information, you can make better decisions. The facts provided in the Employment Report offer greater clarity around career exploration, salary potential, job offer rate, year-over-year comparisons, and regional breakdowns. The Employment Report is filterable by full-time and intern data, allowing you to see the types of opportunities you have access to throughout the Booth MBA Program and after you graduate.
The report provides data from the last five years, so you can see trends. For example, technology surpassed consulting as the number one industry for summer internships for the Class of 2018. From a geographic perspective, around 20 percent of full-time accepted offers were in the New York City area and 22 percent went West to markets such as the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and Seattle, largely in tech roles but also in banking, consumer goods, consulting, and investment management. Employers from around the world are interested in Booth talent and actively engage in hiring Booth students through campus recruiting, job postings, resume referrals, and virtual interviews. This year, graduates joined companies in a wide range of international markets, such as Beijing, Dubai, Sao Paolo, and Seoul.

Why the Network Matters
With 89 percent of hires facilitated through Booth channels, you’ll want to understand the extent of the network in your industry of choice and know which employers hire the most Booth graduates (hint: McKinsey, Amazon, and BCG are at the top of the list). As a student, you will know precisely who to call—making it very easy to reach out and get advice from your fellow Boothies on the inside at your ideal internship or post-MBA place of employment.
Booth Students’ Advice for Applicants
Whether looking to make a career change or to grow as leaders in their current industry, aspiring applicants should become familiar with MBA employment results, especially when choosing the right program for their goals. Two current students, Laura and Chris, were among those who used the employment report to better familiarize themselves with the professional hiring output of the school. They each shared some upfront questions—and answers—to consider:
“When I was applying, I knew I wanted to pivot from investment banking to private equity. I think it’s critical for prospective students to understand what companies hire graduates from Booth and to see the connections you would have as part of the Booth community. For me, even knowing the median monthly salary for internships from the report was helpful in planning for my program.”
–Laura Gontijo de Vasconcellos, current student, interned at Equity International
“Booth's Employment Report was critical in helping me understand all of the opportunities available, and opened my eyes to a breadth of firms I hadn't even considered. From there, I used the report to find current employees at my target firms who formerly had backgrounds like mine. The ensuing conversations were great and helped me both learn more about the firms and prepare for my interviews.”
– Chris Esch, current student, interned at Facebook
