4. Booth research shows that Hong Kongers will ‘run the extra mile’ for uncertain incentives.

Christopher Hsee

Unknown rewards can prove a powerful motivator. Chinese University of Hong Kong’s Luxi Shen (a recent graduate of Chicago Booth’s PhD Program), Booth’s Christopher K. Hsee, and Carnegie Mellon PhD candidate Joachim H. Talloen ran an experiment with a running club in Hong Kong in which runners were encouraged to complete as many track laps as they wanted with a range of prizes to be collected at the end. Shen, Hsee, and Talloen found that those facing an uncertain reward completed almost twice as many laps as runners who knew their prize in advance.

5. Our alumnae have reached new heights in Asia.

Booth opened its first Asian campus at the historic House of Tan Yeok Nee in Singapore before relocating to Hong Kong in 2018.
