Biography

Matthias Breuer is visiting from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business where he is Associate Professor of Business in the Accounting Division.  In his research, he examines issues of corporate transparency and information verification, with a particular focus on the role of regulation in addressing corporate information issues.  Breuer's research has been recognized with multiple awards, presented at leading universities and conferences, and published in accounting and finance journals.

Breuer is an Affiliate Fellow of the Stigler Center for the Study of the Economy and the State at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business and was a Fellow of the Center for Advanced Studies on the Foundations of Law and Finance at Goethe University Frankfurt.
  
Breuer earned a PhD in business (accounting) from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.  Additionally, he holds an MSc in accounting and finance from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a BSc in business administration from WHU-Otto Beisheim School of Management (Germany).

Breuer teaches Financial Accounting in Booth’s MBA program.  At Columbia Business School, he teaches in the MBA and PhD programs.  His teaching has been recognized with the Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence in the Core at Columbia Business School.
