While you might not immediately correlate a University of Chicago education with a role as a sports team executive, Mike Zarren, AB'99, is representing the Maroons in the front office of our hometown NBA team, the Boston Celtics. Zarren has been with the Celtics since 2005, using his sharp UChicago Economics skills (and, in the spirit of full disclosure, a JD from Harvard Law School) to bring a data-heavy tilt to basketball analytics (APBRmetrics) - think Moneyball for the hardwood.
Mike will spend time with us pre-game to chat about his work with the Celtics and the influence of his UChicago education. To learn more about him, check out this article from the January/February 2013 UChicago Magazine. Following his talk, we'll catch the game from Balcony Section 311.
Tip-off is 7:30pm, but we will plan to convene two hours earlier in the evening for Mike's talk with a Q&A to follow.
