Dawei -> KristaHello, I am from Canada, I am working full time in Toronto. I want to know more about the weekend MBA. is it feasible for people who work in Canada to study the weekend MBA offered in Chicago? How often is the weekend MBA. What is your Admission rate. How is the degree different from the regular MBA that your school provide. What's the total tuition cost of the weekend MBA? Thank you~!
Krista -> DaweiHi Dawei- The Weekend MBA is a great options for professionals living outside of Chicago. We accept applications for the Weekend program in the spring and autumn. We do not publish acceptance rates since they vary year to year. There is no difference between the full-time and part-time programs, they offer the same curriculum and faculty. The program meets every Saturday and most students take 2 classes per quarter which allows you to complete the program in 2.5 years. The program is comprised of 20 courses and this year each class is $5,798. In regards to your visa status, we do have students commuting from Canada each weekend and we are able to provide I-20 visas to those students traveling to and from the U.S. each week. If you have additional questions please feel free to email our hotline at : eveningweekend-admissions@chicagobooth.edu.
Beth -> EveryoneThank you for joining us today! I'm Beth Daily, Associate Director and I'm available to answer all of your application related questions. As a reminder, the deadline for the Evening MBA for Winter 2014 is Friday, October 4.
Katie -> EveryoneHello Prospective Students! This is Katie Coogan. It is a beautiful day here in Chicago and we are ready to answer your questions about the Evening MBA and Weekend MBA.
Krista -> EveryoneHello everyone! Thank you for joining today's chat. I'm Krista McNamara, Admissions Manager at Booth and I look forward to answering your questions regarding our programs.
Alley -> Katiei would like to kno about the January session for MBA in international business from your university
Katie -> AlleyHello Alley: On January 10th we have deadlines for the Weekend MBA and Evening MBA to start in the Spring quarter. All Booth students have the option to pursue an International MBA though a small group ends up doing so. You decide this after being admitted and have the chance to discuss with an academic advisor. You can read more about the IMBA here: http://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/weekend/academics/international/imba
Murali -> BethHi, this is Murali. When can the application for the Autumn 2014 Weekend MBA be submitted?
Beth -> MuraliMurali, thank you for joining us today. The application for the Weekend MBA for Autumn 2014 is currently available. You can start the application now and submit whenever you are ready. Once you submit, you will have a decision from our office within 4-6 weeks. You can find the application online at http://www.chicagobooth.edu/apply/shome.aspx/.
Alley -> Kristai would like to send all my educational documents so that u can judge weather i am eligible to undertake your program and should i start applying for it
Krista -> AlleyHi Alley: Since you have specific questions regarding your application, please feel free to email our hotline and I can follow up with you this way: eveningweekend-admissions@chicagobooth.edu.
Alley -> Kristai want a one to one meeting so that i can get all the information i need regarding my program. As i am located in Pakistan, so i will be needing your routes and approach in handling international students n making them part of your unit
Krista -> AlleyHi Alley - We are unable to offer student visas to international students, however, the full-time program does offer this opportunity. Have you already applied to their program?
Daniela0816 -> BethHi, everyone! My name is Daniela Resendiz. Are we required to have an admissions interview?
Beth -> Daniela0816Welcome to our chat, yes, all applicants to the Evening MBA and Weekend MBA program are required to conduct an in person interivew here in Chicago. Once you submit your applicaiton, you will be provided with the link to schedule your admissions interview. All interivews are conducted by members of our admissions committee (current students, alumni, and admissions staff).
Hollis -> KristaHello - I was curious if there was any crossover between the weekend and evening MBA programs, or are you strictly relegated to one or the other. - Thanks for your time
Krista -> HollisHi Hollis: Thank you for your question! The program is very flexible and you are able to take classes in evening, weekend and full-time programs since the curriculum is identical. When registering for classes you have priority within your home program and during a later phase you are able to register for classes outside of your program.
Raj -> KristaHi, I am looking to apply for the weekend program for Spring 2014 semester. Is their a benefit in applying as early as possible vs closer to the January deadline?
Krista -> RajHi Raj - We have rolling admissions so it's up to you when you would like to apply. You are not at a disadvantage if you wait to apply the week of the deadline. Whenever you submit your application, you will hear a decision within 4-6 weeks regarding your status.
MarshallC -> BethAfter submitting an application, when can we expect to find out about an interview? And is the 4-6 weeks referenced from the online submission or the interview completion?
Beth -> MarshallCMarshall, you will receive an email promptly after submitting giving you the link to schedule your admissions interview. The 4-6 week time frame begins after we have received your completed application (all materials, letters of rec, transcript, test scores).
John -> GeorgeHi, is there any advantage/difference between submitting the GRE instead of the GMAT? How is the comparison made? Is it made by percentile? or using the ETS "transform link"?
George -> JohnWe use the conversion chart provided by ETS. We are agnostic when it comes to which you take. We don't have enough experience yet with GRE to know if we want to think about some modifier to the conversation they provide, so at this point you can use it to judge the GRE/GMAT comparison
Thomas -> Bethhello - I am thinking of applying for the Spring 2014 ... is it best to wait till you have all the pieces of the app complete - or start now and complete pieces as they come in .. ie have not taken the GMAT yet and plan to do it in Nov
Beth -> ThomasThomas, good question. I would encourage you to wait until you have the test score you are happy with before submitting the application. We cannot review your application until all materials have been recieved by our office. Most of our applicants apply in the week leading up to the deadline, so there is no rush.
Tiffany -> KristaIf you submit an application for the autumn 2014 cycle, will I still receive a decision in 4-6 weeks?
Krista -> TiffanyHi Tiffany - Yes, you will hear within 4-6 weeks. The Autumn 2014 Weekend application is available now on our website and the application for the Evening program will be available in early October.
Madhu -> GeorgeHello, thank you for holding this chat session. What is the average GMAT score like for the students admitted to Evening MBA? How would you weight quant vs. verbal scores?
George -> Madhu80% of our GMAT scores fall between 620 and 720, with the average being 680. If your verbal score is low we would look harder at your essays and interview, if your quant score is low we would look at your undergrad grades to see if you took any classes that could show your quant abilities.
Anand -> BethI have another question too.Is GMAT score mandatory for weekend MBA
Beth -> AnandAnand, GMAT or GRE scores are required for all applicants applying to the Evening MBA or Weekend MBA programs. We do not provide any waivers.
Thomas -> Bethis there a way to print this entire session ?
Beth -> ThomasThomas, the chat transcript will be available online within a week. You can review and print online at http://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/evening/admissions/events/online-chats
Alley -> KristaI want a full time MBA program maam, with visa assistance
Krista -> AlleyHi Alley - For questions regarding the full-time program and your application please contact their office at admissions@chicagobooth.edu or 773-702-7369.
Ajay -> KristaHello - where can I find the list of courses offered if I want to focus on Entrepreneurship as my major for pursuing my MBA degree from Booth?
Krista -> AjayHi Ajay - If you would like information on Entrepreneurship courses please visit this link:
http://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/evening/academics/curriculum/entrepreneurship.
Our program is different in that you do not declare a concentration or major, however, most students receive an average of 3 concentrations while at Booth.
Daniel -> BethHi, I had a quick question around GMAT requirements for the night and weekend programs. Is it only the executive MBA programs that there is flexibility regarding taking the GMAT or are there conditions where work experience can negate the need to take the GMAT for the other programs?
Beth -> DanielThe Executive MBA program does offer an option of waiving the GMAT. The Evening MBA and Weekend MBA programs do not. All of our applicants are required to submit either a GRE or GMAT score before a final decision can be made.
George -> Everyonesorry, correction to the GMAT score. 80% of our scores fall between 620 and 750!
Madhu -> BethIs it possible to take a quarter or two off once a student starts the program?
Beth -> MadhuMadhu, yes, if you need to take a quarter or two off, that will not be a problem. If you take 2 or more quarters off, you will be put on leave of absence and have to complete a form when you are ready to return.
Tiffany -> KatieWhen evaluating an applicant's career progression, what kind of characteristics are you looking for?
Katie -> TiffanyHi Tiffany: In the application we ask about career history and future career goals. There is no one set of characteristics that Booth is looking for. On the future end, we want to see that you have thought about what a Booth education can do for you and your career. On the career history, we welcome applicants from a wide range of industries and functions and, therefore, do not have a checklist of characteristics we are looking for. Depending on how many years of experience you have you may have direct reports and you may not. Both are okay with us. We do want to see that you have the ability and desire to contribute to the classroom.
Ali -> BethWhat is the average GPA for students accepted into the weekend program?
Beth -> AliAli, the average GPA for the weekend program is 3.4.
Ali -> GeorgeThank you for holding this Q&A! My first question is regarding career services. What career services are offered to weekend MBA students? How and when can they be utilized?
George -> AliWeekend students get the same career services as evening students. They all get access to all career offerings. The only exception for part-time students are access to interviews on campus for internships. These are only available for full-time students. We post over 500 internships on our GTS site which are available to part-time students however. Also, if you want to interview on campus for full-time employment, AND you are getting tuition reimbursement you would have to get your employer's permission to do so. All of our career services are offered on the weekend for weekend students. The only exception being that companies who come to interview, only do so during the week. So, if you go through full-time recruiting, you would need to come to campus for the interviews you get.
Alley -> Kristathe only hindrance is the English requirement for the taking of IELTS or GMAT. Is there any other source through you can evaluate my english
Krista -> AlleyHi Alley - International students are able to take the TOEFL as well to evaluate their English skills. The GMAT is a required component of the application.
Elisio -> KatieHello - do you offer GMAT waivers for your Weekend MBA?
Katie -> ElisioHi Elisio - We do not offer GMAT waivers for the Evening MBA or Weekend MBA, however, that is an option for our Executive MBA program. Read more here: http://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/exec-mba/admissions/application
Cpen -> BethHi I am looking for information on Executive MBA. I have a green card and also I live in Chicago. So should I still need to write GMAT to get admission?
Beth -> CpenCpen, you will need to contact the Executive MBA program office (xp@chicagobooth.edu) to ask if they would be able to grant a waiver for the GMAT. When applying to the Evening MBA or Weekend MBA program, all applicants are required to submit either a GRE or GMAT score.
Dawei -> KristaCan I send my resume and academic record and some specific question to you so you can judge whether this program is a good fit for me before I start an application? what's the average GMAT score you accept ? Thank you ~
Krista -> DaweiHi Dawei - The mid-80% range for the GMAT is a 620-750. While we do not offer resume review before applying, we would be happy to answer your questions specific to your application. Please email our hotline to arrange this: eveningweekend-admissions@chicagobooth.edu.
Murali -> KatieAre all courses available in the Evening MBA program available on weekends?
Katie -> MuraliHi Murali - Over the course of the average 2.5-3 years that Weekend students take to complete the program, you will see all of the courses rotate through the Weekend sessions. You can also earn all 14 concentrations as a Weekend student. Given that there are only two Weekend class times on Saturday there is not as much variety on a quarter by quarter basis as there is with Evening where there are 5 class times (Monday-Friday). Please note there are multiple courses offered each class time in both programs.
Katie -> EveryoneSeveral of you have asked about the curriculum and concentrations at Booth. Here's some info!
James -> KristaThe weekend MBA program meets always/mostly at the downtown campus or main campus?
Krista -> JamesHi James, the Weekend MBA meets every Saturday in downtown Chicago at the Gleacher Center campus http://www.chicagobooth.edu/about/campuses/gleacher
Set -> GeorgeHi, thank you for hosting this session. I want to know whether or not you have noticed a difference in career recruitment options for those that have graduated from the Weekend/Evening MBA vs the Full Time MBA. Specifically, have you noticed whether the Big 3 management consulting firms have a preference for one or the other?
George -> SetNot really. Consulting is an area that is highly sought after by part-time students. Many of our students go that route. What recruiting firms often value is the experience the part-time students bring in an industry or company. What hurts part-time students is the fact that, because of the tremendous amount of travel involved, companies are worried about bringing on someone who is older with a family. While people often think they are ok with the travel, in practice they often quickly realize that it takes its toll. So some companies have had bad experiences with older hires.
Yush -> BethAnother question guys : Are there any restrictions to what Majors one can pursue while attending the weekend program.. are certain majors restricted to the main campus and hence not available through the weekend program?
Beth -> YushAll of the concentrations are available to all Chicago Booth students (full-time, evening, and weekend). For more about our concentrations and the classes you should take to earn them, please visit http://programs.chicagobooth.edu/curriculum/concentration.aspx. You can also review http://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/evening/academics/curriculum
Hollis -> BethHi- Are we eligible to experience a class visit after this chat session? Thanks
Beth -> HollisHollis, a class visit is a great opportunity to experince Chicago Booth firsthand. We are currently working to finalize the class visit schedule but once we do, it will be online at http://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/evening/admissions/class-visit?source=modules_engage_eve. You can email us now at eveningweekend-classvisit@chicagobooth.edu and we will let you know once the list is up. All class visitors are paired with a current student who takes you to class.
Ali -> KristaDo you have any general tips regarding the essays, beyond the typical (and very understandable) don't say what we think you want to hear?
Krista -> AliHi Ali - A great tip is to have someone read your essay without knowing the questions beforehand. Then afterwards, ask them what the question was. Hopefully your essay is clear in not only answering the question but doing so in a thoughtful and concise manner. Also, spell check!
Yush -> KatieJust wanted to know the deadline for the interviews for the weekend program- for the summer class.
Katie -> YushHi Yush: We schedule your interview after the application is submitted. That means most will take place after the January 10th deadline. We are on rolling admission and you can submit early in which case you can interview before the deadline. We will have a Super Saturday on October 12th if that fits your schedule. There will be more leading up to the deadline and after. Check here for dates: http://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/weekend/admissions
Madhu -> BethI have a Master's from US university, however, my undergrad is from India, where they use a different scoring system. Do I need to submit my undergrad transcripts with evaluation to GPA
Beth -> MadhuWhen you apply, you will need to either upload or send in copies of your transcripts/mark sheets/degree certificate. When entering your academic information into the application, you can use your institution's grading scale and we will evaluate that based on the information from you. For you Indian transcripts, please upload mark sheets and degree cerificates.
lynewman -> KristaI have two questions on weekend program. 1) what is the class size for Spring and Fall semester classes? 2) What is the requirement for recommendation letters for weekend program applicants?
Krista -> lynewmanHi Lynewmen - We require two letters of recommendation with your application. While it varies each year we usually have ~ 100-115 in the Autumn. Since this is the first year we will have Spring Weekend students we do not have an average class size for that quarter.
ylow -> BethFor my undergrad studies, I took the ACCA certification program (UK equivalent to US CPA) rather than the more conventional college degree - as such I would not have a GPA score to submit. Will this affect my application?
Beth -> ylowylow, as long as you earned an equivalent degree to a US bachelor's degree, it will not be a problem if you do not have a GPA.
Kamran -> GeorgeHi, everyone! I am interested in the PTMBA Program @ Booth to primarily gain the knowledge and skills to go deeper within my current industry. What attracts me to Booth is the wide variety of backgrounds and industries represented amongst classmates which will undoubtedly provide new and different perspectives. Although my intention is to continue pursuing a career in healthcare, how does Career Services at Booth support PT students who become interested in changing career paths or thinking differently about the one they are on?
George -> KamranToo many ways to know where to start. Research on companies and industries, help crafting your resume to fit an industry profile, help with interview practice and techniques. Help developing your elevator pitch, help learning how to effectively network, help learning how to make calls to alumni or company recruiters, and the list goes on. I have put the career slider out. It may also help you look at it.
Daniela0816 -> BethWhat is the difference between the Executive MBA and the regular MBA programs, weekend of evening?
Beth -> Daniela0816The Executive MBA is a 21 month cohorted program with a general management curriculum. You take all of your classes with the same individuals. The full-time, evening, and weekend MBA programs allow you to pick and choose the classes you would like to take. There is much more flexibility in the those programs.
John -> GeorgeBy "verbal score low" do you consider the actual verbal score or the GRE essay grade?
George -> JohnYes, we look at each part of the grade, both verbal and quant, we are concerned with each.
Thomas -> Bethis there a limit to the number of classes a person can take on the Weekend or Evening program in a quarter - ie my company would allow me to take 10 weeks off - could I take 3 or 4 courses ?
Beth -> ThomasIf you want to take 4 or more classes, we ask you to come in and speak with an academic advisor to understand your situation and advise you on the best course of action. All that being said, if you want to speed up your degree, this is certainly an option.
Anand -> GeorgeHi This Anand from Atlanta,do you offer Placement for weekend MBA and Is there
George -> AnandYes, we offer placement for weekend mba students. I have added the career slider for you to review. The second part of your question got cut off.
janaki -> BethHi! Is there a way I can begin with the application process for fulltime/weekend MBA awaiting my GMAT score?
Beth -> janakijanaki, you can certainly start your application to either of those programs without having your test scores. However, if you submit your application without test scores, we cannot start the review process until we have all of your applicaiton materials. Applications are available now at http://www.chicagobooth.edu/apply/shome.aspx/
Jessalyn -> KatieDo admissions officers look at LinkedIn profiles? Also can you provide more information about the logistics of the weekend program - such as hotel stay, when students typically fly in, meals.
Katie -> JessalynHi Jessalyn: It is not part of our regular process to look at LinkedIn profiles. Given that they are available publicly you should be alright with the information captured in your profile. Weekend students fly or drive in Friday evening or Saturday morning. We have free shuttles that pick you up from the airport on Saturday morning and take you back after class. Students find the best hotel deals via discount hotel sites and we have relationships with several nearby. There is always free coffee on Saturdays and you should know Saturday is our busiest day at the Gleacher Center with group meetings, student club events, career services events and other happenings!
Madhu -> BethWhat is the best way to talk to current students in the Evening program to get
Beth -> MadhuIf you would like us to connect you with current Evening MBA or Weekend MBA students, please send your request to eveningweekend-admissions@chicagobooth.edu and we will be happy to connect you.
Cole_Scott -> KristaHello. I was curious about the logistics of the weekend program. Do most students, who live outside Chicago, fly Firday night and if so, do they stay at a hotel near the Gleacher Center? What happens if flight is canceled and you are unable to make it to class? Is there an opportunity to make up the time?
Krista -> Cole_ScottHi Cole - Thank you for your question! Most students either fly in on Friday night or early on Saturday morning. We offer a shuttle to and from both Chicago airports on Saturdays. Students usually stay near Gleacher Center and we have relationships with many hotels in the area. If you have to miss a class due to travel issues, it is up to the professor how you will make up the class since we do not record classes.
Ali -> GeorgeHow do you weigh the Integrated Reasoning portion of the GMAT into your admissions decision?
George -> AliWe don't have enough experience yet with the integrated reasoning. We are evaluating students as they proceed through the program and will then go back to see what they got on their integrated reasoning. If we run a regression that shows some predictability or trends we will then know how to weigh it in our decision.
Dawei -> KristaDo you have scholarship or any financial aid for students from Canada? I have a Canadian citizenship, do I still need a visa to study at Chicago?
Krista -> DaweiHi Dawei - We do not offer scholarships to students since we are a part-time program; however, you have the ability to use private loans. We have financial aid officers who can help set this up for you. Students who live outside of Chicago commute in each weekend for classes. Depending on how far away they live, some students will fly in Friday night and others will arrive on Saturday morning. We offer a shuttle service to and from both airports on Saturday.
Hollis2 -> BethHi - If we have taken the GRE/GMAT several times is the best score or an aggregate submitted? Thanks
Beth -> Hollis2Good question. We evaluate your application based on the best score. That being said, if you either enter in or release your scores to us, we will see all of your test scores.
Kinjal -> BethWhat is the Average GMAT score for PT Weekend program?
Beth -> Kinjal80% of admitted students have a GMAT score between 620-750.
Katie -> EveryoneSounds like we have many Weekend prospective students on the chat. I want to be sure you know about our new student profiles and video interviews with current Weekend students. Check it out here: http://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/ewviewbook/#Alex
Yush -> KristaAlso is there a website that details the global/international aspect of the part time MBA (weekend).
Krista -> YushHi Yush- For more information on international study please visit:
http://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/weekend/academics/international
John -> BethIs there a limit number of students for the weekend class? What is the usual class size? And what is the international students ratio for the weekend program specifically?
Beth -> JohnJohn, there isn't a limt to the number of students in the Weekend program but we typically bring in 100-115 Weekend MBA students each year. Class size can range between 20-65. 26% of our Evening and Weekend MBA students are international.
Yush -> GeorgeThis may be the most open ended question asked but how does Booth demonstrate its affinity to creativity within the context of business?
George -> YushCreativity is woven into much of the curriculum. Even within the leadership component. We say we are not looking to stamp out 150 Booth leaders who all look the same. We guide you on a journey to discover your authentic leadership style. In marketing we teach brainstorming techniques using direct and tangential thinking. Even in finance, if you ask faculty, they will tell you that all new concepts and the next innovation will come from someone who understands the basic concepts but then learns to use them in a new and interesting way. We want to teach the learner, not the learned. With the rapidity of innovation in the world, only the creative will survive.
janaki -> KristaThank you for the reply to my previous question! Other than my GMAT score, 2 recommendations, essay and transcripts/marksheets of my college degree; what else do I need? Are these requirements similar to full time course? Do you also support in getting an education loan?
Krista -> janakiHi Janaki - For a full list of the requirements please visit:
http://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/evening/admissions/apply
The full-time application is different than ours. I recommend getting in touch with their office for specifics admissions@chicagobooth.edu. We do not offer student scholarships but financial aid is available:
http://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/evening/admissions/tuition-financial-aid
John -> BethCan the weekend MBA students attend the job fairs hosted at Booth school?
Beth -> JohnYes, Weekend MBA students can attend the job fairs hosted at Chicago Booth. We also have many student group events on Saturday during the lunch hour, which you can also attend.
Ari -> KatieHello, I would like to strengthen my application by enrolling in a certificate program to show recent aptitude. How does the admissions committee weigh professional certifications and how, if possible, can a certificate program be best used to strengthen my application?
Katie -> AriHi Ari - We definitely value all of your education and credentials. You should include all of it in your application. You can add it to your resume and list in in the application.
Murali -> KatieAre applicants with over 10 years experience at a disadvantage applying to the weekend MBA because they might be expected to apply to the executive MBA program?
Katie -> MuraliMurali - Definitely no! We have many applicants with 10 years or more who like the flexibility of the Weekend program and we welcome them with open arms. We are not concerned that you have more work experience, in fact we like what it brings to the classroom!
Daniela0816 -> GeorgeDo future employers prefer the regular MBA over the Executive MBA degrees?
George -> Daniela0816It depends. It is really tough to generalize is such a way. There is much selection bias at work here. Because the companies that come to recruit at Booth don't have access to our executive MBA students (they are not allowed to go through full time recruiting) I would say yes. But just because of the above, companies who may desire executive students over part-time students would not be coming to Booth to recruit. Finally, most companies who recruit MBA students are recruiting for large programs which are set up to bring in newly minted MBA students for entry level positions. Companies who are hiring for more sr level spots are looking to fill just one spot, so coming to campus makes less sense.
Thomas -> Kristaif you apply and don't get accepted - will you be advised why - and can you apply again - and if so is there a waiting period
Krista -> ThomasHi Thomas - In this situation, you have to wait 6 months to reapply to the program. It is our policy that we do not provide deny feedback given the amount of applications we receive.
Yush -> Kristaafter having attended an info session and visited a class - I came across lunch and learn- can you briefly explain what this is...cheers !
Krista -> YushHi Yush: Here is a brief overview of our lunch and learns:
http://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/evening/admissions/events/conversations
It's an small event and allows you the chance to ask admissions officers and current students/alumni questions about the program.
Michael_Gloss -> BethWould you advise we submit our application for the weekend MBA program as early as possible vs. waiting until the application deadline? ie does selectivity change depending on the submission date?
Beth -> Michael_GlossMichael, since the majority of applicants wait until the week of the deadline to submit their application, apply when you feel your application is complete. Selectivity does not change based on when you apply to the program.
John -> KristaIf a weekend MBA student wants to take a class at Harris school for example (or any other school), does he/she need to attend the class during the week? OR do other schools host classes on Saturday/evening also?
Krista -> JohnHi John - Great question! You are able to take 6 classes outside of Booth, so Harris is a good option. Since it's a full-time Master's program, most classes will meet during the daytime.
Kinjal -> Kristaand hoping to get around GMAT of 680. What else would help to strengthen my application?
Krista -> KinjalHi Kinjal - The GMAT is just one component of your application. We truly do view the applicant from a holistic approach. Strong letters of recommendation coupled with thoughtful essays and a positive interview all help us understand your motivation behind obtaining an MBA from Booth.
NIK -> BethWhat is the Average GMAT score for Full time program
Beth -> NIKThe average GMAt for the Full-Time program is 715. For more on their class stats, please visit http://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/full-time#simple2
Jessalyn -> BethDo student who have a master's degree have an advantage over those who don't?
Beth -> JessalynGraduate degrees are not required to apply to Chicago Booth but 20-25% of our incoming students have advanced degrees.
Kamran -> GeorgeAs a follow-up to the internship discussion for PT students, my firm encourages leaves to pursue different interests. If I have approval from my employer, would I be eligible to participate in on-campus internship recruiting?
George -> KamranKamran, no, you would still not be able to do that. Even though your company may be ok with it, the recruiting companies are dubious of bringing in someone who is employed when they can bring in any number of full-time students who are not employed and they know will be taking a job upon graduation.
Michael_Gloss -> BethWhat is the middle 80% and mean GMAT score for the Weekend MBA program? ie if you have separate stats for that program
Beth -> Michael_Gloss80% of our admitted students have a GMAT between 620-750 (same for both Evening MBA and Weekend MBA).
Chris -> KatieIf you start a part-time program, but want to resign from your job and finish full-time, do you need to apply to the full-time program? Also, do the on-campus interviews and other full-time only services become available? I know this probably isn't recommended, but I'm curious.
Katie -> ChrisChris - Good question. The answer is no, you can't transfer between the part-time and full-time programs. You can take the equivalent of a full-time load of classes as a part time student (up to 5 classes). We have several students who take advantage of this option if they leave their job or their job leaves them. The only resource that is not available to part-time students is help with on campus internship recruiting. This is because the program is built for working professionals.
MarshallC -> BethIf we've only been with our current employer for a short period of time, do you recommend submitting two from our past employer? One from our current employer and one from our past? Or one from our current and two from our past?
Beth -> MarshallCWhile we prefer a letter of recommendation from your current supervisor, if you elect to have your previous supervisor submit a letter youcan explain your choice in the question "why did you choose your recommenders". If you would like to include your current supervisor, you could also add a third letter of recommendation.
Ari -> GeorgeCould you speak to Booth’s efforts to achieve diversity within its classes and how to they maintain it?
George -> AriWe recruit for it. We look at every aspect of your application to try and bring in people working at different firms, in different industries, with different backgrounds. Since it's inception in 1889 the University is the only school that has been fully integrated. We had the first female president, first female dean, first female Phd students, first back MBA graduate first jewish president, and the list goes on. We believe that ideas compete and people collaborate, but the only way that works is if we bring in the most diverse and interesting set of thinkers we can.
Loren_K -> KatieHow heavily weighted is work experience on the application process?
Katie -> Loren_KLoren - We do not weigh the pieces of the application differently. Instead we use a holistic admissions process where we factor in each piece. You should have solid work experience and an idea of what you want the Booth MBA to do for you professionally. If you want to talk in more detail, you can email our hotline at eveningweekend-admissions@chicagobooth.edu.
NIK -> BethThanks Beth for your answer! What if the score is 650? That means application will be rejected or what?
Beth -> NIKI would recommend reaching out to the Full-Time program to get their 80% range for their admitted students. You can reach them at admissions@chicagobooth.edu.
Murali -> GeorgeWhen you review an application how do you determine that the applicant can contribute to the program and add value to the experience of the entire class?
George -> MuraliEvery aspect of the application has this as its goal. Can you help your students through your IQ (GMAT and Undergrad grades), will you be a great teammate (interview, essays and letters of recommendation), will you add the community (community service and essays), will you be a good alumni (community service, letters of recommendation essays). The question you ask is the question we ask ourselves as we read your application. If we cant answer that in the affirmative, you will not be admitted.
janaki -> KristaDo you think an applicant with lower experience (1-2 years) is at a disadvantage for weekend/part time MBA? Can this be made up with a number of internships and community work?
Krista -> janakiHi Janaki - For applicants with under three years of work experience we encourage that they look into the Chicago Business Fellow program. If you have follow up questions about this feel free to email our hotline: eveningweekend-admissions@chicagobooth.edu

ViralPatel -> KristaHello! Hope everyone is having a great lunch break. I am a physician who works currently at University of Chicago. I want to figure out which program is the best for me. I have experience previously working as an Engineer and at McKinsey. I live in River North actually so the commute is not bad to the campus either. Wanted to figure out which program would be best. Evening, Weekend, or Exec. My future goals are to potentially work at a medical device company and incorporate my MD, Engineering and my future MBA into this realm. Any guidance on this? I feel like the GMAT may be a hurdle to overcome if I went evening or weekend. Thanks for the insight.
Krista -> ViralPatelHi ViralPatel - That's a great question. Each program will give you the same MBA, it's just a matter of how you want to go about doing so. The Evening MBA and Weekend MBA program is extremely flexible in that you can take classes and obtain a variety of concentrations while at Booth. You have up to 5 years to complete the program so it's a great option for those individuals that might want to take two classes one quarter, then one class the next, or take a few quarters off. The Executive MBA program is different since it has a lock-step class structure. You take classes in a particular order with your cohort and are in the program for 21 months. Also, during your first quarter you are required to travel to all three campuses Chicago, London and Singapore (soon to be Hong Kong). It's a big decision to make so I hope this helps you sort through the major differences. If you have questions about the Executive MBA program please email them at xp@chicagobooth.edu.
Ajay -> BethMy next question is pertaining to the Weekend MBA program : If for some reason say bad weather condition, I am unable to visit Chicago for the class, what are my options to make up for the class?
Beth -> AjayAjay, you would want to notify your professor as soon as you know you will delayed. Faculty are understanding but do expect you to be in class. None of the classes are recoreded, so you will need to work with your fellow classmates to get the material you missed. You could also set up time to meet with your professor as well.
Moderator -> EveryoneOur chat will be ending in approximately 10 minutes. Please submit your final questions so we can answer all of them.
MWilliams -> KatieHi there! I read that early career candidates (0-3 yrs work experience) who enroll must enroll in the to Chicago Booth fellows program and must stay employed at the their current employer during there time at Booth. I will have 2 years full time work experience (+ 1 yr internship experience) when I plan to enroll and was wondering if you could tell me the difference between the Chicago Booth Fellows program and the standard program.
Katie -> MWilliamsMWilliams - Chicago Business Fellows is our early entry program and is a subset of the Evening MBA. You are in classes with all the other Evening students and receive the same degree of MBA. However, there are special support focused in your first quarter - a professional development seminar on Friday evenings, a CBF mentor, and social outings. You do need to remain employed however you do NOT need to stay with the same employer. You can change employers, get promoted, all of that is great! Hollis2 -> BethHi - As a follow up question to Thomas's regarding reapplying for admission; do you track any percentages of those that might be admitted on the second try? - Thanks
Beth -> Hollis2I currently don't have the reapplicant statistics in front of me, but do know we get many individuals who are successful in reapplying. You are considered a reapplicant if you have applied to any program at Chicago Booth within the last two years.
Vikram -> BethMy question is regarding visas. I am on an H1B work visa and I am employed full time in the Chicago area. Does enrolling for the PT MBA have any visa dependencies?
Beth -> VikramTo apply to the Evening MBA or Weekend MBA, you would need to be a US citizen, US permanent resident, or have a work visa. An H1B visa would allow you to work and study in our program.
Kinjal -> KatieHow is the PT Booth degree weighed in industry against FT?
Katie -> KinjalHi Kinjal - A Booth MBA is a Booth MBA. There is no difference among employers and alumni. The rigor of our programs is equal and the same faculty teach across all of Booth's MBA programs.
Kyle -> KatieWhat is the typical class makeup for Evening and Weekend MBA students (which disciplines do they come from)?
Katie -> KyleKyle - I am going to point you towards our student profiles website which has a graphic at the bottom that answers your question.Go to this link and then click on Meet our Students and scroll all the way down: http://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/ewviewbook/
ViralPatel -> BethI would not be able to travel for the Exec program. I would have to be based here. Is there any leniency with the GMAT requirements for MDs?
Beth -> ViralPatelViralPatel, all applicants to the Evening/Weekend program are required to submit a GRE or GMAT score regardless of prior education or experience. We will not be able to give you a final decision until we have your test scores.
ekow -> KristaI would like to find out more about the requirement for admission into the programme as well as the tuition fee for the programme. How long will it take to complete the program?Thank you
Krista -> ekowHi Ekow: The application has a list of requirements all available here:
http://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/evening/admissions/apply
For tuition and financial aid information please visit:
http://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/evening/admissions/tuition-financial-aid
Students have 5 years to complete the program; however, most students take 2 classes per quarter and finish in 2.5 years.
Yush -> BethEvery individual accepted to Booth contributes to Booth's community in several ways- what do you think the Booth community seeks in terms of contribution from today's students?
Beth -> YushOur students have varying levels of engagement with the community here at Booth. While we encourage you to get involved while you are here at Booth, we do not force you. We have 34 student groups so there are many ways to get involved. You can learn more about the community online at http://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/evening/student-experience/beyond-classroom.
Thomas -> KristaIf you start UofC as a Student at Large - 1) does this help your application strength 2) I think the limit is 3 classes will transfer into the program - is this correct - and if so are there ever any exceptions to that ?
Krista -> ThomasHi Thomas - Yes, you can have 3 classes from Graham School count towards your MBA. It definitely cannot hurt your application to take classes at Booth before applying to the program. Doing well as a graduate-student-at-large demonstrates that you can succeed in the rigorous classroom environment.
Madhu -> BethYou said earlier, you would look at all the GMAT scores if I report all of them to Booth. In this case, do you average them out or look at the best of them.
Beth -> MadhuMadhu, we do not average your scores. We evaluate based on the highest score.
lynewman -> KatieIs there any difference in flexibility in the course selection between and Spring and Fall semester PT program?
Katie -> lynewmanlynewman - There is a variety of classes offered each quarter in the Evening MBA and Weekend MBA. All quarters are equally competitive. You should apply when the time is right for you!
